TRANSLIGHT SCIENCE-FICTION ROLEPLAYING

A TRANSLIGHT SCIENCE-FICTION ROLEPLAYING

 Translight

Translight is a percentile-based science-fiction roleplaying game created by Martin J Dougherty and developed by the Avenger Enterprises team.

These pages serve as an introduction to Translight, the official Translight game setting, and the people involved in the project. For now, here's the (extremely) short version:

Translight is based in real science as much as possible, except where that's not fun. The rules are intended to play fast and to be flexible. They're as realistic as possible, except where that's not fun. Combat can be deadly, which may or may not be fun depending who's on the receiving end.

Translight deals with pretty much all the hazards a starfaring adventurer might encounter, from bad guys with guns through vacuum exposure to a case of respiratory Anthrax (which, by the way, is not fun).

It does this without being intrusive or math-heavy, and without ever being, in any way, not fun.

Small combat craft of a sort that might be termed ‘fighters’ are of negligible military value against the heavily armored warships of the Translight universe.

Interceptors, as these ‘fighters’ are normally termed, are sometimes used as pickets or to eyeball an unidentified vessel and for policing duty. They can also intercept light craft armed with weapons capable of harming a real warship, such as the V-Boats depicted left.

The origins of the term V-boat are lost in the mists of history, but by convention a V-boat is a light strike craft armed with torpedoes – ie, fast missiles with a big warhead but short range. The sole purpose of a V-boat force is to get close enough to the target to launch torpedoes. Interceptors and larger gunships are often deployed to stop them.
