SITREP May 2008
Well, it’s early May 2008. This SITREP was due a couple of days ago but I was too busy with, umm, important stuff. Yes, that must have been it.
Right at this very moment I’m about 75% of the way through an adventure for Mongoose Traveller entitled ‘Type S’. We were thinking about ‘Dude Where’s My Scout/Courier’ for a title but somehow it didn’t quite ring true.
Type S is a simple recovery mission – the travellers have to go to a world and bring back a Scout/Courier that’s stuck there. Simple, yes? Well, probably not. The ship isn’t in the best of condition and there are, well, complications….
Type S will be initially released in PDF, pretty soon. The plan is to release adventures in this format and then create compilation books in print when there are enough similar books to justify the project. However, the ‘Project Steel’ trilogy will go straight to print. Lead times being what they are, Project Steel will be available in PDF before the print version arrives.
Project Steel is in final production right now. So is the Freedom League Sourcebook, which is the last of the 1248 books for the time being. We have to concentrate on a couple of product lines, and the Mongoose 1105 setting is the most viable Traveller setting at present. We (Avenger) are the only people outside Mongoose that can publish in this era… so we really need to get some product out to support the rules.
We are continuing with our own Translight/Far Avalon project, but this and 1105 are the only settings we’re working on at present. We may well do other things, including a return to 1248, in the not too distant future but overdiversification is not a good thing. There are more than a dozen people involved in Avenger/Comstar, not counting more distant freelancers, but there is only so much we can do at once. We’re not in the habit of producing vapourware and we want to keep it like that. So for now we’re concentrating on the two core lines.
Translight is almost ready for printing. I personally need to put the manuscript for Book 1 back together and add Richard to the credits for Book 2 before I forget again. The Far Avalon book is likewise in nearly-finished state.
Well, that’s where we are right now.

SITREP END MARCH 2008 Well, here we are embarking on a voyage of discovery as I try to figure out how to use the new website. How hard can it be? (tell you when I’ve successfully uploaded this, if ever). There’s a lot going on aboard RSS Avenger right now, as we move towards a couple of big launches. Mongoose Traveller is due out pretty soon, and we’re hoping to have an adventure book (Project Steel) ready to cash in on… sorry, ‘accompany’… the release of the new Mongoose Traveller Spinward Marches book (which I wrote). I’m in the very last stages of preparing the first draft of that book right now. |
